Dino co. (maybe a silent dream) full draft so far!

HELLLOOO! Hey my peeps... how are you all? I know, I know... I haven't posted in

(SSSSOOOOOSSSSOOO) long!!!

It's actually crazy... Soooo I actually have some changes that I made to my Genesis story... to be completely honest, I'm not sure wether I will be able to finish it at all. It may just be a (silent) dream..

anyway here is my full draft so far:

Preface

Charlotte’s blonde head lay crooked on the dark marble flooring. Johnny’s jaw tensed as he looked away. My chest tightened. My head throbbed. My stomach churned in distaste. Uneasiness crawled up my arms. In the corner of my eye I watched Johnny brush his hand through his dark hair. Charlotte was dead and we knew who killed her. I had always wondered why Nina had given me the shivers, and it was only now that it dawned on me. She had always been working with Odette Alexander.

A wrenching whisper cast from Johnny’s lips.

 “What should we do?”

That was the question that I had been asking myself all of these questionable six months. I knelt down to touch Charlotte's cold, bruised hand. Black and violet splotches marked the back of it. I swept her blonde bangs on top of her head to examine the gunshot wound. It was clean, but a crimson trail oozed from the wound.

Charlotte’s eyelashes brushed against my palm as I placed her golden hair back across her forehead, covering any sign of injury, except for a small patch of sticky blood clinging to her sweaty locks.

Johnny tapped his radio unit with indecisiveness flickering in his blue eyes. Brown and hazel flecks pinpointed inside of the deep crystal colour. We both were thinking the same thing. This was a matter of murder. What could we do? The only two options hung in the air, heavy and thick with emotion. Either we alert the authorities of the murder and tell them of who the killer was, or we would confront Nina ourselves. Either way, Charlotte’s death would be avenged.

Chapter 1: Opportunities awaken

The telephone rang about three times before I woke up. Swiping at my eyes, I balled both hands and rubbed them against my blonde lashes. Picking up my thin rimmed glasses delicately with two fingers from my desktop, I perched the wire bridge on my nose. Swinging out of bed, I urged my eyelids to stay open. The phone rang a few more times.

“I’m coming, I’m coming!”

In spite of my glasses prescription, the darkness of the room was still a trial. Slowly staggering to my kitchen, I felt the edge of the kitchen tile flooring.

“I’m coming!” I called once more, disgruntled at being awoken so early.

Just as I thought that the telephone was within arm’s reach, I tripped over my dog, Einstein's, 200 pound slab of body and sprawled to the floor. Accidentally jabbing Einstein in the back, the Saint Bernard jerked awake and skidded to the other side of the room. Whimpering for a moment, his attention wandered to the mushroom shaped ceramic jar that held his doggy biscuits. Jumping up toward my grey countertop, his 4.75 inch paw pushed my white, glass kitchen canister off the counter.

Thankfully I had gotten the strongest glass canister I could find for this very reason. Picking up one of many wooden utensils clattered to the floor, before Einstein decided to chew it, I swiped the phone from the receiver and hugged it between my shoulder and chin while I started to collect my kitchen contents off the floor.

“Hello,” I answered with a bit too much annoyance.

“Hello, Miss Webster…” A woman spoke over the line in sweet tones. Her slightly-younger-than-middle-age-voice seemed to be tired.

I smirked.

Of course she’d be tired, It's 2:45 in the morning!

Only people who were calling to give me a yearly subscription to The Portland Post or the news station called at this hour. Before I allowed her to continue, I replied,

“Yes?”

I waited for her reply to be something ridiculous.

“Hello, I’m Charlotte Muigure, the secretary of Dino Company. I’m calling on behalf of Jerald Alexandar, the founder and head scientist of the company.”

Dropping a large spoon into the canister on the counter, I slid up against the wall and started twisting the phone cord around my finger.

“Really? Well, what is the purpose of this call exactly?”

Charlotte replied clumsily.

“Oh yes, Um I’ll be with you in a moment.” The buzzing of the on-hold button frazzled through the line.

“I’m sorry about that. Here is Mr. Alexander now.”

My breath caught up in my throat.

“Hello. Is this Miss Webster? I’m Dr. Jerald Alexandar, the owner of Dino Company and Findings of a Lifetime, our website.”

“Hi, Yes, I’m Genesis Webster. What is the purpose of this call Dr. Alexandar?” Silence filled the line.

“Miss Webster, I understand that you are a genius in the science world. I also know that you have come across the coordinates for the bones of a full Tyrannosaurus Rex. Is this true?”

Mixed emotions swirled around in my brain. My blood boiled at the fact that the confidentiality of the matter had been shared with this Jerald Alexander.

“Yes, it's true,” I hesitantly responded.

“Well, I’ll be!” The Dr. and Charlotte whispered over the line. They continued muttering to each other in hushed tones. Although I couldn’t comprehend what was being said, I had a good feeling.

”Miss Webster the real reason we called is because we've been looking for a young scientist to partner with for the, “Dino dig” contest which allows the best dino digging companies of the world to rival each other and find the most valuable bones, and the board and council of the company recommended you to us.”

I smiled in pride.

“Miss Webster, how would you feel about a train ticket?” Shocked, I dragged the phone “Hello, I’m Charlotte Muigure, the secretary of Dino Company. I’m calling on behalf of Jerald Alexandar, the founder and head scientist of the company.”

Dropping a large spoon into the canister on the counter, I slid up against the wall and started twisting the phone cord around my finger.

“Miss Webster, how would you feel about a train ticket?” Shocked, I dragged the phone down my face and held it in my hand for a few seconds. Take a job? All the way in Virginia? That’s across the country, considering I lived in Portland. Lifting it back to my cheek I answered,

“Make it a window seat.”

                                                                   *******

My heart throbbed in excitement. This was my big break. I stood on the train platform, one hand holding my spontaneously packed suitcase and two briefcases, and the other pinching the tongue of my collar up against the brisk morning chill. My glasses fogged up in the breeze. I looked down at the crate that held Einstein. His carcass was balled up and his heavy breathing indicated that he was sleeping.

My eyelashes fluttered in the breeze as I shrugged away the effects of my early rise. Glancing at my watch, I realized that the large sign that listed the time of my train's arrival read 4:00.

Seeing that it was gonna be a while I stepped to the waiting area and sat down. Sniffing, the cold air entered my nostrils and stung the inner canal.

Breathing deeply I yearned for the comfort of my warm bed, I propped my shoulder up with my suitcase and placed my side profile on it. The pleasure of the relaxing position left me blinking back the urge to sleep.

“I really need sleep.” If I fell asleep and didn't wake up in time for the train, I wasn’t getting to Virginia. Glancing at my watch, I noticed that it was gonna be a few hours before the train would roll through. I wiggled into a more suitable position and closed my eyes in spite of my conscience’s warnings.

“This is heaven.” I soothingly said.

Chapter 2: Thick as thieves

A shaking feeling woke me from my much needed snooze.

“Ma’am? Excuse me?” I blinked open my eyes, and looked towards the person that had so rudely interrupted my slumber.

“Are you waiting for the 4:00 am train?” It was a random guy I’d seen hanging around before I fell asleep. His Nike sweats and blonde hair were tamed and chic, and nothing about him wasn’t average. Looking into his eyes, I noticed something unusually strange about them.

One was blue and the other brown.

“Huh, oh yeah, why?” Snapping into reality, I panicked,

“Am I late, did it leave?”

“No, no… I just wanted to tell you that you’ll have to get used to missing this!”

Without a second glance I watched him swipe my briefcase and run off laughing.

   Shrieking, I ran towards him.

“How dare you…… you…! Stop!” The man turned to me while running and smiled with triumphant eyes. Racing around a few blocks, I realized he was too fast, considering my pace.

I stopped and held my hairline while looking at the ground.

Blonde wisps spew about my face.

“No, this can’t be happening. All of my work… my studies… my findings!”

Panicking, I spot a nearby phone-booth. Racing in, I hold the rim of the doorway while I dial 911. Swiping the phone off the receiver, I press it hard against my cheek.

            “911, what is your emergency?”

 The operator's voice calmed me.

“Hi, umm, I’m Genesis Webster and I’ve just been robbed.”

“Do you know who robbed you ma’am?”

The simplicity in her voice made my blood boil.

“No, I don't know who robbed me! What, you think I went through his drivers licence info before knocking him out and then calling?”

“Ma’am, I’ll need you to calm down…. where did you get robbed?”

              “At the Portland transportation station.”

“Ok, can you describe the thief?”  Her voice wasn't making my anger any better.

“Yes, he had blonde hair and was wearing Nike sweats.” Desperate, I racked my brain for the details.

             “Anything out of the ordinary?”

“No, not unless you count his eyes.”

            “What about his eyes ma’am?”

Breathing heavily I leaned into one of the plastic walls while I looked up into the starry night. Obliviously I pulled the phone from my face. Hearing the woman’s voice, it muffled as I heard her ask again.

Shaking my head I hang the phone back to the receiver. As I heard the line break the connection between us, I started walking away, feeling totally defeated.

                                            ******************

My feet felt heavier than two large elephants. As I solemnly walked back to the train station, I looked up into the starry night.

“Why God? Why are you letting this happen? I spent my life savings on getting to school, getting my masters, and helping with organizations all over the world! So why?”

I cracked a screech. I rubbed methodically at my temples. My eyes blurred in a sense of intense loss. Rubbing my face, my arms fell to my sides. I clapped my hands to my thighs as if giving closure to the moment.

“I guess I’d better call Mr. Alexander,” My throat stung with the unsettling bile that had risen from my cramping stomach…  “and tell him that he’ll have to find someone else.” Looking around for a phone booth at the station, I unfortunately couldn’t spot one.

“If I go back to the one around the block I’ll miss the train.” My mumbling echoed through my eardrums.

Finally a bell went off, indicating my ride. Looking back at the train's departure board, I saw the words : 4:00 Virginia.

“I can’t go to Virginia without my work! I’m sure that Mr. Dalton won’t accept me like this.” I turned to the trainboy standing near.

“Hey you!” I snapped my fingers to alert him. He jumped up and ran to my elbow.

“What can I help you with?”

“I’d like to swap out my ticket. Can I get one for  6:00?”

The young man turned to the departure board.

         “The ride for Nebraska?”

Nodding, I added,” That's the one.” I let out a deep breath.

                                                          ***************

    Chapter three: Unsettling

A small river of tears had been let down since I had sat down to wait for the ride to Nebraska. In my hasty decision making, I hadn’t realized what I was doing.

Why I didn’t get a reimbursement to get home is still a mystery to me.

After what seemed like an eternity, the train chimed.

Picking up my second briefcase, and suitcase, I signaled the trainboy to aid Einstein's crate. His eyes bulged at the large manor of his crate.

“Where should I put this? Extra tip if you want him in your cabin.”

Nodding, I handed him a few bucks.

         “Keep the change.”

“Got it. This is pretty hefty.”

The young man’s straining lifts cracked his voice.

“Just take care of the crate. Will you?”

Nodding his curly brunette locks, he turned to put Einstein in my cabin.

As I followed, I scoped out the layout of the train in case of an emergency, or just if I wanted a snack that wouldn’t take me fifteen minutes to get. Setting the crate to the floor, the trainboy admired the cooped up Saint Bernard.

“See ya later. By the way, the name’s Toby.

“Thank you for the help.” I glanced at him with a smile. Toby left me with my thoughts. Locking my cabin, I flipped open Einstein's crate, and curled up with his furry hide for a long nap.

                                                                 *******

Toby's bright blue eyes sparkled slightly by the overhead lights in my cabin. His fingers were wrapped around my forearm, slightly shaking it. He smiled down at me.

       “This is your stop.”

“And where is that?” My brain rejected the idea of waking but I slid up and rubbed my eyes. I felt groggy.

“In Nebraska of course!” Shaking out of my socks, I jumped up.

        “Nebraska?!”

I tilted my head and widened my eyes. “I don’t understand. I am in Virginia. You’re merely messing with me! Why are you messing with me?” Toby raised his eyebrows.

“Are you gonna be OK? I’ll help you with your luggage.” Toby reached for my briefcase. “Hands off pal!” I swooped in front of him and protected the last of my research.

Toby reared and lost his balance.

Falling on top of Einstein's crate he hurt his elbow. My protective instincts subsided and I put both palms to my mouth, seething with terror.  I kneeled to help him up.

“I’m so sorry! Are you ok? Here let me help.”

Toby pushed me away.”You're crazy!”  He stood and walked out. Wiping my eyes I looked down at my wrist. 11:53 PM.

“I slept for nineteen hours?!” Einstein seemed content in his crate.

“We’d better get off. Can’t exactly carry you out of here can I?”

Grabbing his leash from my coat I cracked the crate open and clicked his collar and leash together. Being efficient I stuffed my luggage inside the crate and attached Einstein's spare leash to it. As I led both the dog and crate out of the train's exit, many stares came from those who were entering.

Rolling my eyes I continued my descent. Finally, standing on the depot, I searched for a phone booth or taxi. Near the depot building, a yellow cab was parked a few yards away. I called out.

           “Taxi!”

An elderly woman with a small dog and handbag, puttered closer to the taxi and knocked on the side with her cane. The driver waved from the window at her.

“Open this door right now young man or I’ll clip your ears harder than I hit your pretty little car.”

Her croaky voice finished off her look. Not wanting to be rude, I edged my way closer to the cab trying to slip in before the old croak did. The driver slipped out of the car just in time to request that the old lady lay off.

Getting my chance I stuffed my luggage in the trunk and pushed  Einstein into the seat next to me. The driver signaled me to move over and helped the woman to the other door. Sighing, I pulled Einstein off the seat. Again her cane came down on the door.

“Thats for not opening it for me!” The driver opened it quickly and tried to take the woman's elbow but she whacked him in the leg with her wooden weapon.

“And that's for trying to kill me!”

“What a drama queen.” I eyed Einstein.

Once the driver had settled inside the car he asked, “Alright, where to?”

Leaning forward, I replied, “To……..”

Before I could get the words out the woman next to me yelled out her demands, “Get me to the Magnolia Hotel!”

I looked at the woman, mouth dropped open. As an informed person, I knew that the Magnolia Hotel was the most expensive hotel in the state. The old crows eyes narrowed at me.

“What are you looking at girlie?”

Blowing a sigh from puckered lips I nodded and raised my eyebrows as I looked to the ground. As the drive continued I stared out into the city. Tall buildings, road lights, and the beautiful reflection off of the cool water surrounding the city, gave me a smile. Einstein sat panting at my knees.

Finally the driver announced, “Magnolia Hotel! May I assist you with anything ma’am?”

A hint of fear noted his voice. “Not in the least!” The woman's shrill voice echoed into the starry night as she guided herself out of the car and grabbed her handbag from the seat.

“Such horrible assistance.” She mumbled, snarling in the driver's face.

The woman left.  She left me with amazement and the driver with bruises.

Inside the car the driver whispered in a pinch of fear noting his voice, “And for you? Where to?”

Chuckling, I patted his shoulder.

“Don’t worry, I'm no one to be scared of. I’ll be going to Horizon Inn Motel.”

Along the way the driver introduced himself and we talked about the woman who had been with us only minutes before. We shared some laughs. Finally, we were there. The hotel looked neat and welcoming from the first appearance. Slipping from the car, I gathered my luggage and said my goodbye’s. I gave him a salute as he drove off.

Grasping my bags, I trudged towards the double sliding doors. Stomping off inside,  the clerk looked up to me.

        “How may I assist you?”

“I’d like a suit please.” Nodding, the young woman looked down to file me into her computer. She looked like someone tired enough to be talking to me in a sleepwalker's terms. I chuckled at myself. The young lady tapped impatiently on the mouse of her computer as if to say that I was an inconvenience.

“Alright, how many nights will you be staying?”

“Let’s aim for two.”I swept my unruly blonde curls from my tear stained cheek. Nodding she clicked away at her computer board. Swiping a card through a scanner she handed it to me.

     “Room twenty-four. That’ll be three-hundered dollars and 59 cents.”

Breathing deeply, I handed her my credit card.

“Can I have your name, phone number, and email?”

After checking in and finding my room, I swung my room's door open. Tossing my shoes across the floor I laid my luggage down on the couch.

“What a neat looking room.” Jumping up I examined the bathroom. It was crisp and tidy. Hand towels and little soaps laid on a tray at the end of the counter.

“I’m gonna take a shower, OK?” Einstein barked. “Shhhhh! People are sleeping ya know!”

Giggling, I shed my clothes and turned the shower on. As hot water streamed down my face and neck I turned the nob for the hardest spray. The water beat down on my shoulders. Might as well get a massage out of this. I thought, sighing with content and relief. After getting on some clean clothing, I prayed and climbed into the white, pressed and steamed sheets of the hotel's queen sized bed. Blinking for a second I lost myself in an unsettling sleep.

  Chapter four: 200 cokes

Over the next two days, I toured around Nebraska city hoping to give myself a chance to grieve over my lost briefcase. Finally I had decided to get myself to Virginia no matter what.

                                                  ****************************

My hips sank into the airline seat. I clipped my belt on and sighed in contentment. Einstein was in cargo hold, and as for me, I sat with an airline quilt over my thighs and a neck pillow at the base of my skull. I sipped the Coke provided by the stewardess and placed it back into the safety of my cupholder. I was only 200 Cokes away from Virgina, but more realistically, 2 hours. I took advantage of my sitting position and allowed myself the pleasure of a much needed sleep.

                                                 *******************************
A heavy flood of emotion washed over me. “What am I doing?” I questioned what had truly brought me here. “What truly am I doing?”

SO this is what I have so far - -
