Story Page
Hi everyone, I'm Enislee. This is my first post on my blog! What do you think? Since I'm new at this, I'm not super sure on what I want to put on here, so let's start with something easy. My stories! I have so many ideas for books and would like to share them with you. Here is a short little snippet of the story I'm working on now.....
Chapter 1
The telephone rang about 3 times before I woke up.
Swiping at my eyes, I fisted both hands and rubbed them against my blonde lashes.
Picking up my thin rimmed glasses delicately with two fingers, from my desktop, I perched the wire
bridge on my nose. Swinging out of my bed I urged my eyelids to stay open. The phone rang a few more times.
“I’m coming, I’m coming!”
In spite of my glasses prescription, the darkness of the room was still a trial.
Slowly gliding to my kitchen, I felt the edge of my kitchen’s tile flooring.
“I’m coming.” I call once more.
Just as I think that my telephone is in arms reach, I trip over my dog Einstein's 200 pound slab of
body and sprawl to the floor. Accidentally jabbing Einstein in the back,
the saint Bernard jerked awake and skidded to the other side of the room.
Whimpering for a moment, his attention wanders to the mushroom shaped ceramic jar that holds his
doggy biscuits.
Jumping up toward my grey countertop his 4.75 inch paw pushed my white glass bottle that was
being used for the containment of my kitchen utensils, off of the counter.
Thankfully I had gotten the strongest glass bottle I could find for this very reason.
Picking up a wooden spatula, before Einstein decided to chew it, I swiped the phone from the receiver
and hugged it between my shoulder and chin while I started to collect my kitchen.
“Hello.” I answered with a bit too much annoyance.
“Hello Miss Webster…” A woman spoke over the line in sweet tones.
Her “slightly younger than middle age voice” seemed to be tired.
I smirked, Of course she’d be tired, It's 2:45 in the morning!
Only people who were calling to give me “A yearly subscription to (The Portland Post), or the news station called at this hour. Before I allowed her to continue, I replied,
“Yes?” I waited for her reply to be something ridiculous.
“Hello, I’m Charlotte Muigure, the secretary of Dino C.O. I’m calling on behalf of Alexander Dalton,
the founder and head scientist of the company.”
Dropping a large spoon into the bottle, I slid up against the wall and started twisting the phone cord
around my finger.
“Really? Well what is the purpose of this call exactly?”
Charlotte replied clumsily,
“Oh yes, Um I’ll be with you in a moment.”
The buzzing of the “on hold” button streamed through the line.
“I’m sorry about that. Here is Mr. Dalton now. My breath caught up in my throat.
“Hello Miss Webster, I’m Alexander, the owner of Dino C.O. and Findings of a lifetime, our website.”
“Hi. What is the purpose of this call Mr. Dalton?” Silence filled the line.
“Miss Webster, I understand that you are a genius in the science world,
I also know that you have come across the coordinates for the bones of a full Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Is this true?”
Mixed emotions swirled around in my brain. My blood boiled at the fact that the confidentiality of the matter had still been shared to this “Alexander Dalton.”
“Yes it's true.”
“Well, I’ll be!” Mr. Dalton and Charlotte whispered over the line, although I couldn’t comprehend
what was being said, I had a good feeling.
”Miss Webster the real reason we called is because we've been looking for a young scientist to partner
with for the, “Dino dig” contest which allows the best Dino Digging companies of the world to rival
each other and find the most valuable bones, and the board and council of the company recommended
you to us.” I smiled in pride.
“Miss Webster, how would you feel about a train ticket?”
Shocked, I dragged the phone down my face and held it in my hand for a few seconds.
Take a job? All the way in Virginia? That’s across the country, considering I lived in Portland.
Lifting it back to my cheek I answered,
“Make it a window seat.”
Ok so yah, as I said, short. Tell me what you think!
Hope you like it!
