Chapter 2

A rattling noise woke me from my sleep .

I rubbed my eyes and looked at my alarm clock : 3:52 AM . I heard the rattle again .

This time my Saint Bernard dog, Einstein, tiptoed up whining.

“Oh Einstein, it’s too early to get up. What’s wrong ?” The rattling continued as I swept

my feet off of the edge of my bed and swaggered to my bathroom . I flicked

on the bathroom light switch .

        “It’s ok Einstein .” I said soothingly .

“ All it is , is the faucet acting up again .” I stroked the top of his head for a minute or two

and then made my way to my watering tank which was at the back of the bathroom . I pulled the lever that would turn my water. I sighed .

“I really need to get that fixed , don’t I boy ?” Einstein wagged his tail and barked .

“Shhhhhhh … haha ! You’re going to wake up the whole apartment

building if you go on like that! “Yah Genesis, Really you've got to get everything under control.”

I thought, annoyance creeping up my back. For the last 24hrs I had stayed in this shabby

apartment room.

Snapping back into reality, I took a closer look at the ancient water heater. Tapping one

of the glass, disk-like odometers, I stepped back to inspect the reading.

Obviously the verdict read very high. Sniffing, I looked around the “in need of renovations”

bathroom. The tiles on the floor seem to be

cracking and slipping out of place.

Bending down I slid an escaping tile back to its original position. Glancing at my watch I noticed that it was only 4:00 in the morning.

Still time to get a snooze. I contentedly waltzed back to my sheets and mattress.

Sliding into the warmth, I cuddled Einstein's large carcass that had made its way to the

edge of my sleeping quarters. Smiling, I sighed in content relief.

                                                                        …

Buzzing from my alarm clock startled my second slumber. Drinking in what I could from the

heat in the midst of my sheets, I slid uncomfortably from them in hopes that the shock

of the brisk morning ventilation wouldn’t be too dire.

The shabby curtains that hung from a bar at the top of the large, church-sized windows, kept

the light from streaming in.

At least decently. Sweeping them to the side, thick, honey-like rays

filled the room. Breathing deeply inward, I swept up the remote control with a

flick of my wrist and channeled the television to the news. The babbling from the

so-called, “Barbara Winston” filled my ears as I yawned and

headed to my kitchen for some breakfast. Wiping margarine on my silver hills toast, I start

to listen to the latest news.

“Last night, criminal, Micheal Moody, was seen at the Portland

transportation station, waking a young woman and taking her briefcase.

Moody was found knocked out a few blocks away from the station, with the briefcase open.”

My heart thumped in my chest. Could it be true? Would I be able to get my briefcase back? Scampering back to face the television, I swiped the remote and clicked the buttons to turn the volume up.

“Police have been investigating, and have found that the

files inside should be kept under lock and key. The files have been

found to be coordinates for the bones of a full Tyrannosaurus Rex. The police have

transferred the information to none other than Dino C.O, the biggest dinosaur lab and

museum in North America, aside from their rivals, Dinosaur Wonders, and D.O. Dynasty.

The woman from the train has still yet to be found, but the police have told us that she will

be a top priority. And now, from Jackson Picks on the weather.”

The tv went blank for a moment and Jackson Picks then stood with a wind muffed

microphone in his drenched hands.

“Thank you Barbara, the weather here in Virginia has not been a pretty sight for

the past few weeks and…….” Flicking the television off, I took a deep breath.

“If Dino C.O has my findings, then that must mean they’re safe, and that Mr. Dalton

must know that they’re mine!”

I needed to call Dino C.O.

Skidding to the phone. I quickly dialed Mr. Dalton's number.

           “Hello?”

“Mr. Dalton! It’s Genesis. Do you have my coordinates, I just saw it on the news!

Where are they? Are they safe?”

           “What are you talking about?”

“What do you mean? What are you talking about? You have them at Dino C.O.” My panicked voice creeped me out. I was acting like a maniac.

“Miss Webster, seriously, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

My heavy breathing calmed my beating veins.

“You mean you truly don’t know?

Ok so I cut the story to add a bit of suspense 😏
